My name is Sabrina and I am an associate at North Star Therapy.  I have been a practicing social worker for five years, with 12 years of experience working in various roles within the mental health sector. Over the course of my career, I have supported numerous clients with their mental health goals and adapted to their individual needs.

My own experience in seeking support fuelled my passion around reducing the isolation one may feel in trying to attend to their mental health. I often found myself diminishing the severity of my concerns and therefore felt unworthy of therapeutic care.

That is why I strive to cocoon clients in feeling a sense of community, while they spend time reconnecting back with all parts of themselves. I’ve learned that folks intrinsically have the knowledge, power, and skill to be well. However, sometimes our experiences lock us into survival patterns that eventually outgrow their once protective benefit, making one potentially feel fragmented and stuck.

I practice from a collaborative, strengths-based framework that is trauma and attachment informed. I utilize modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). My practice aims to support adults to rediscover their unique strengths and abilities and be empowered by their stories.

Everyone is deserving of having a safe space to reflect and create the shifts they seek in life, including you. My goal is to provide guidance that allows you to compassionately process your experiences, obtain new perspectives, and restore agency over your mind and body.

My Background:

Previous to my transition into private practice, I worked at the Child Development Institute as a child and family clinician, providing therapy to families who experienced domestic violence, and faced challenges in family functioning. My past experiences include providing counselling to youth experiencing peer conflict, anxiety and body image issues, as well as advocating for incarcerated women and supporting with their reintegration into the community.
